Financial Literacy Event For National Financial Literacy Month

One of the most popular times of year to host a financial education event is during the month of April as this is the national financial literacy month in the United States.

Financial literacy month is designed to help raise awareness about real world money matters. The ability to understand finance, specifically to be able to make informed decisions about how you go about managing your money, is now more important than ever. Financial literacy month focuses on helping individuals improve their money management skills and improve upon financial literacy standards. During this time there are a wide range of campaigns, financial education events and in school promotions that share a common goal - to combat the problems associated with financial illiteracy. Here is an overview of what you can expect to see during financial literacy month.

1) Many financial institutions and nonprofit educational organizations hold financial education events during the month of April. These promotional events are done to raise awareness as well as to get funding to conduct financial literacy research and training.

One such event, Money XLive, has been specifically designed for younger people to get the next generations excited and motivated to learn about money. This event includes live entertainment, sports stars and celebrities in a full concert venue.

Several universities, particularly those that have a strong desire to see their students succeed also hold financial education events. Call your local university or college to see what is available during financial literacy month.

2) Several campaigns are calling on volunteers from across the country to help today's youth pick up money skills. National financial literacy campaigns, like StandUp for Financial Literacy, are designed to reach as many people as possible and teach them practical money skills. StandUp4FL is the largest public-private partnership designed to empower people with life changing money skills.

Part of their call for volunteers includes helping people put on their own financial education event during financial literacy month. Companies like the National Youth Financial Educators Council deliver turnkey camps, workshops and events to people that are passionate about helping others pick up money skills.

If you are interested in hosting your own financial education event then you should contact a local financial institution or financial literacy organization as they will be able to provide you with the most up to date information in financial education events.

With the current economical climate it is becoming increasingly more important to have a good understanding of practical money matters. Go out and help youth in your community pick up the skills many of us wish we had growing up. If you ever said "I wish I knew that when I was younger" than pay it forward and help a kid, teen or young adult pick up money skills. This is a gift and a skill set that will help them their entire life.
