Since the two big U.S. wars, the civil war and civil rights wars, Atlanta has been through a lot. The destruction of some of its beauty by Sherman not withstanding, there really are things still worth taking pictures of in this city. If you are looking for some of the best places to photograph in Atlanta try these.
1. The Atlanta Zoo - A zoo is always a great choice for pictures. The antics of the wildlife can prove interesting and challenging to photography. The Zoo in Atlanta has the newest members on display: the baby Panda's. They are rarely found in captivity. The zoo houses over 200 species and will have something that will surely make you grab your camera. The Primates are always ready to pose for any camera as well. And there are animals in this zoo that aren't found anywhere else. This could be fun for the entire family. Give everyone a camera and let the snapping begin.
2. Peachtree and Washington - Yes, this is an intersection in the city. The buildings in this area are antebellum and make for an excellent photo fodder. The colonial style buildings are restored to their original grandeur. You may also want a shot of the flatiron building located between Peachtree, Broad and Poplar. This is the oldest one of its kind, predating the one in New York by four years.
3. Stone Mountain Park - Yeah its granite, but the way it is arranged by nature deserves preservation. Who knows when some developer will buy it from the government using some trumped up law to get public property made available for private use? Don't laugh it could happen. This 90 x 190 feet sculptures of the confederate heroes are one of the big attractions here. Besides that, there are over 3,000 acres of natural beauty and splendor that can be photographed for a mere $8 admission.
4. Kennesaw Mountain - If you are into photographing historically relevant sites then this is where you would go in the Atlanta Area. They have old cannons and you can see the bunkers they made to hide from the enemies's mortar fire. The Civil War Park is now home to a bounty of nature's beauty but from the remnants it is not hard to imagine the war-ravaged landscape of yesterday.
5. Georgia Aquarium - Not only is this a great place to get up close and personal with a whale shark, you have another 10,000 animals that you can feed, frolic with or photograph. The 20-acre park is an oceanic zoo and a who's-who of undersea life, on hand to greet you. The park is located just down the road from Centennial Olympic Park, which is another place that pictures can be made that can be of great interest and conversational value.
You can find interesting photo ops all around Atlanta, from its Urban squalor, to its mighty mansions. Amateurs and professionals alike can make a great showing of Atlanta's past, present and future.
